Review: Mob Land

Here’s a review of Mob Land a Gothic drama that drags like a sick pig.

Mob Land is going all-in on the deep southern gothic mood with its deep-fried cinematography, engine oil-colored color scheme, and a soundscape that appears to be consisting primarily of reverb-heavy blues guitar and cicadas.

It’s just a shame that the plot is conventional, the acting is so glaringly forced, and the tempo drags like a wounded pig at a hog shoot.

The film stars John Travolta as Shelby’s uncle, a cynical sheriff who brings his own brand of justice to the table, and Shiloh Fernandez as Shelby, a financially strapped dirt track racer. In the movie, Stephen Dorff plays a mob enforcer from outside the city who runs into both of them.
